If Advanced JFS isn't loaded, and sometimes if it is,
you may be unable to increase a file system. You may
not be able to unmount it either.
The following steps are the proper way of increasing a file
system:
1) umount /dev/vg00/lvol1
2) lvextend -L larger_size_number /dev/vg00/lvol1
3) extendfs - F hfs /dev/vg00/rlvol1
4) mount /dev/vg00/lvol1 mount_dir
If unable to mount lvol1 (say it's /var or /usr) then
edit the /etc/fstab file and place a comment in front
of that entry and reboot the system, or type init s (or init 1)
Before doing that you might try using fuser -k "pid", but
that hasn't worked yet for the main filesystems.
If you rebooted, hit escape and b pri, yes to interact
with the isl, then type: hpux -is
When the system comes up into single user mode then
perform the following steps:
2) lvextend -L larger_size_number /dev/vg00/lvol1
3) extendfs - F hfs /dev/vg00/rlvol1
4) mount /dev/vg00/lvol1 mount_dir
when the new filesystem is seen with a "bdf" then edit
the /etc/fstab file, reboot the system or do an init 3
and carry on.
